The Hand That Slipped Away

"Through the blind bridge of the world, a shadow walks on."

The Hand That Slipped Away

Through the blind bridge of the world,
a shadow walks on.
Unaware, it tears free
the hands that were clinging
to the railing
and throws them into the river.

Like a paper boat,
the hand begins to row itself,
drifting away.

The shadow stands watching,
watching the hands
rush off through the restless waves.

Still watching, it wonders:
was it my hand that fell away,
or was it the shadow itself?
